On foot: Flat and compact. The main streets are pedestrian-friendly with well-maintained pavements. Best explored on foot.
After dark: The tea houses glow with soft lantern light, and the narrow streets take on an atmospheric quality. Most temples close by 5pm, but Hanamikoji stays picturesque. Restaurants along Shijo-dori serve kaiseki dinners.
