Terms of service

Effective date: March 20, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Sola mobile application and website (solatravel.app), operated by Bokang Sibolla Digital Pty Ltd, trading as Sola, registered in South Africa (34 Shortmarket Street, Cape Town City Centre, 8001). By using Sola, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.

We've written these in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us at team@solatravel.app.

1. What Sola Is

Sola is a travel platform built for women who travel solo. The app provides destination guides, community discussions, direct messaging between travelers, trip planning tools, and traveler profiles.

Sola is not a travel agency. We don't book flights, hotels, or tours on your behalf. We don't employ or vet the travelers you connect with through the app. Travel information we provide is for guidance only, not a guarantee of accuracy or availability.

2. Your Account

To use most features of Sola, you need to create an account. When you do:

  • You must provide accurate information. Don't impersonate someone else.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
  • You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

If you believe someone has accessed your account without permission, contact us immediately at team@solatravel.app.

3. Your Content

You can post in community discussions, send direct messages, create trip plans, and build a profile. All of that is "your content."

You own your content. Sola does not claim ownership of anything you create or share on the platform.

You give us a license to display it. By posting content on Sola, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the app and related services (for example, showing your community post to other users, or displaying your profile to travelers browsing the app). This license exists so the app can function. It ends when you delete your content or your account, except where your content has been shared by others or is reasonably needed for the operation of the platform.

You are responsible for what you post. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share. Don't post content that is illegal in your jurisdiction or in South Africa.

4. Prohibited Content and Behavior

Sola exists to help women travel confidently. To protect that, the following are not allowed:

  • Harassment, threats, or intimidation of any kind
  • Hate speech targeting anyone based on gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic
  • Stalking or unwanted contact — if someone asks you to stop, stop
  • Solicitation — don't use Sola to sell products, recruit for schemes, or promote services unless explicitly permitted
  • Spam — bulk messages, repetitive posts, or content designed to manipulate visibility
  • Sexual or explicit content that is non-consensual or unsolicited
  • Deliberately misleading information — don't post false information about destinations, transport, or local conditions
  • Impersonation of other users, Sola staff, or public figures
  • Any illegal activity, including but not limited to fraud, drug trafficking, or content that exploits minors

Sola reserves the right to remove any content that violates these guidelines, and to suspend or terminate accounts responsible for violations. We may do this without prior notice if the situation warrants it.

5. Community

Sola is a women-focused space. That's the foundation. Everyone who uses the platform is expected to respect that.

  • Treat other travelers with respect and good faith.
  • If someone shares their location, travel plans, or personal information with you through the app, do not misuse that trust.
  • Use the in-app reporting tools to flag content or behavior that concerns you. We review every report.
  • If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. Sola is not an emergency service.

We take our community seriously, but we cannot guarantee the behavior of other users. Exercise the same caution you would when interacting with anyone you meet through any online platform.

6. Paid Services

Sola may offer paid subscription tiers or premium features in the future. When we do:

  • Pricing, billing terms, and what's included will be clearly communicated before you pay.
  • Subscriptions will be managed through the app store (Apple App Store or Google Play) and subject to their respective refund policies.
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice.

Free features available today may become part of a paid tier in the future. We will communicate any such changes in advance.

7. Intellectual Property

The Sola app, its design, branding, destination guides, curated content, and underlying code are owned by Sola. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the app without written permission.

User-generated content remains yours, as described in Section 3.

The name "Sola," the Sola logo, and associated branding are trademarks of Sola. You may not use them without permission.

8. Limitation of Liability

Sola provides travel information, community tools, and planning features. We do our best to keep information accurate and up to date, but:

  • Travel information is guidance, not a guarantee. Conditions change. Borders close. Neighborhoods shift. Always verify critical information (visa requirements, health precautions) through official sources before traveling.
  • Sola is not responsible for your travel decisions. You are an independent traveler making your own choices. We provide tools and information to help, but the decisions and the risks are yours.
  • Sola is not responsible for the actions of other users. We facilitate connections between travelers, but we do not vet, background-check, or supervise anyone on the platform.
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data, travel disruptions, personal injury, or financial loss.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Sola's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the app is limited to the amount you have paid to Sola in the 12 months preceding the claim, or 50 euros, whichever is greater.

9. Termination

We can suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, engage in prohibited behavior, or if we reasonably believe your use of the app poses a risk to other users or to Sola. We will try to notify you, but in urgent cases, we may act first.

You can stop using Sola at any time. Just delete the app or stop logging in. If you want your account and data fully removed, see Section 10.

10. Account Deletion

You have the right to delete your account and request removal of your personal data. You can do this through the app settings, or by emailing team@solatravel.app. When you request deletion:

  • Your profile, posts, messages, and trip data will be permanently deleted.
  • Some data may be retained where required by law (for example, transaction records) or where necessary to protect other users (for example, records of reported behavior).
  • Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of Sola after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

We will always keep the current version of these terms available at solatravel.app/terms and within the app.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any legal matters arising from these terms or your use of Sola will be subject to South African law, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence provide otherwise.

13. Dispute Resolution

If you have a dispute with Sola, we'd prefer to resolve it without lawyers. Contact us at team@solatravel.app and we will work with you in good faith to find a resolution.

If we can't resolve it informally, any legal proceedings will be brought before the competent courts in Cape Town, South Africa, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence provide otherwise.

For users in the European Union: you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
