An information source for women travelling alone in Southeast Asia, and an iPhone app that carries it with you.

What it is
Sola covers 19 countries, 75 cities and 1,548 places to stay, weighted towards Southeast Asia. Every place has been read rather than listed: we go through the published reviews and the operator’s own information, and write down the parts that decide whether it works for someone arriving on her own.
It is deliberately a reference rather than a feed. There is nothing to scroll, no algorithm deciding what you see, and no requirement to post a question and wait for an answer.

Who makes it
Sola was founded in 2025 and is built by Bokang Sibolla, its cofounder, operating as Bokang Sibolla Digital Pty Ltd, registered in South Africa. It is a small operation with no outside investment, which is worth saying because it explains both the pace and the absence of anyone with a reason to soften what we write about a property.

How it pays for itself
Some links to a place to stay are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you book through them. Those links are marked on the page. Nothing about a property’s write-up changes because of it: we do not accept payment for a listing, for a better position in a list, or for a more flattering read, and no property has ever been given a say in what appears here.
That distinction matters in this category. Directories aimed at women travellers commonly sell the listings they recommend. We do not.

What we will not do
We do not promise you an outcome. You will not find the word “safe” used as a guarantee anywhere on this site, because it is not ours to give. We tell you what a reception desk does overnight, whether a street has people on it at 11pm and what a lock is like, and you decide.
We also do not run a companion-matching service and never will. Introducing strangers to each other for travel is a different business with a different duty of care, and it is not this one.
