The read

What it feels like: Nyaung Shwe sits at the northern tip of Inle Lake. A canal runs through the centre of town. Restaurants, hotels, and tour agencies line the main streets. It is small and easy to navigate on foot or by bicycle.
Who is around: Travellers coming back sunburned from boat trips, local Shan families, bicycle tourists
On foot: Compact and flat. The main strip from the canal to the market is about a 15-minute walk.
After dark: A handful of restaurants stay open until about 9pm. The town is quiet and dark after that. Most visitors have early mornings for lake boat trips.
