The read

What it feels like
South of Jemaa el-Fna, past the Saadian Tombs and Badi Palace. Calmer streets, fewer touts, and more residential. The riads here tend to be better value than those near the main square. El Badi Palace ruins are worth an hour. Good base for exploring without the constant noise.
Who is around
Riad guests enjoying quiet mornings, local families, and occasional tour groups at the tombs
On foot
Flat and less crowded than the main medina. The lanes are narrow but easier to navigate than the souk area.
After dark
Quieter than the central medina after dark. A few riad restaurants serve dinner. The area empties out in the evening, with limited street lighting in the residential sections.
