The read

What it feels like
The social centre of Chefchaouen. Cafes ring the square with rooftop views over the medina. The kasbah museum sits on one side. This is where you get your bearings before exploring. Prices are slightly higher here but the people-watching is good.
Who is around
Tourists having mint tea, local men playing cards, and stray cats roaming between tables
On foot
A single open square, flat and accessible from the main medina paths.
After dark
Cafe terraces around the square stay open for dinner and mint tea. The square is the best-lit part of the medina and remains the last area to quiet down, usually by about 10pm.
