- What it feels like
- Every wall is painted in shades of blue. The lanes are narrow but easy to navigate compared to Fes or Marrakech. Less aggressive touts, more cats napping on steps. Small riads and rooftop cafes are everywhere. You can see the whole medina in a day but two feels right.
- Who is around
- Instagram photographers, backpackers from Fes, and local shopkeepers who are used to tourists
- On foot
- Steep, narrow, and entirely on foot. The medina is a maze of stairs and uneven stone paths. Comfortable shoes with grip are essential.
- After dark
- The blue walls take on a different character under low lighting. Most shops close by 8pm, and the medina gets very quiet. A few restaurants in the central squares stay open for dinner until about 10pm.
