What it feels like: Maseru is small and functional. Most of what you need sits along one main road, Kingsway. It feels like a town that exists to get you somewhere else, which is honest.
Who is around: Government workers, minibus taxi drivers, and travellers stocking up before heading into the mountains.
On foot: The main commercial strip along Kingsway is walkable, about 2 kilometres. Pavements are inconsistent beyond the main road.
After dark: A few hotel restaurants and bars in the centre serve dinner. The city is generally quiet after dark. Most visitors dine at their accommodation.
